Hans Sipma in Vancouver 1976

SHOOTING STARS        by Hans Sipma

I began photographing musicians in the late1960’s, often in a borrowed department store advertising studio (first Eatons, then The Bay, later Eaton’s again) where by day, I shot everything from fashion to furniture. My after-hours work brought me to the attention of Vancouver talent agents like Bruce Allen and Sam Feldman, and through them, to soon-to-be legends like Bryan Adams, Prism, Doug & the Slugs and Trooper. The budgets were small, the hair was big, and digital didn’t exist, so “making it work” took a lot of late nights and a lot of ingenuity. I hope you enjoy this look back at the boys (and girls) in the bands - some famous, some forgotten, all part of music history.

Please let me know if there are errors, omissions, or if you have something to add. I will be updating this site as new information comes in.
